Compass gets over a billion connected vehicle data points every day from 64 different car manufacturers across Australia. This includes both VIN level data through manufacturer connect schemes as well as aggregation of anonymised vehicle data.
Our data is incredibly granular. Each line can show location, timestamp, ID, speed, acceleration, gyroscope, make, model, as well as road attributes (such as speed limit, pavement type and other variants). Each OEM provides data at between four times a second to once every minute depending on connectivity.
The platform also has separate vehicle class including cars, LCVs, and HCVs.
Yes, Compass has connected vehicle data across virtually every road in Australia. This includes urban centres such as Sydney, all the way out to Alice Springs. We also have international connected vehicle data insights for regions outside of Australia.
The data comes from cloud-connected vehicles that have an internet connection. Information is collected via different sensors in the vehicle, sent to the cloud, and then processed by Compass. That data is then transported to the Road Intelligence platform where users can look at the network’s performance.

Compass gives us an observable for the very first time, around what drivers are doing as they move around the roads in their everyday activities. It's anonymous, but it gives us the ability to understand what's happening everywhere on our roads, all the time.

Using CompassIOT data I can look up any site to understand existing speeds around crossings. It allows us to understand how things like platforms and speed cushions impact vehicle speeds, and how we can achieve Safe System Speeds where people walking and riding have to interact with cars!
