Vehicle-generated Data for Trajectory Industry Insights Released

Compass IoT has released a new Industry Insight following October's Council Focus Group webinar, Understanding Applications of Connected Vehicle Data for Trajectory'.

The use case presentations and subsequent discussions were moderated by David Lillo-Trynes, the partnership manager at Compass IoT, and featured presentations from Darcy Bullock — Joint Transportation Research Program Director and Professor of Civil Engineering, Purdue University.

Key takeaways from the group included:

  • Great results and actionable insights can be achieved with 3-5% penetration rates of Connected Vehicle (CV) data. Anything more means quicker recommendations and results.
  • Connected Vehicle data is proving to be a powerful tool to enhance insights when combined with existing systems like SCATS or STREAMS.

With US-based examples of intersection analysis, evaluation of incident management and downstream risk monitoring, safety metrics and proactive risk indicators, and integrating connected vehicle data within existing traffic management systems, the webinar provided areas for further discussion and research as we continue to explore applications of vehicle-generated data across different transport contexts.
